India Post has announced a special cycle drive recruitment for 12,828 vacancies of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), Branch Postmaster (BPM), and Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) across various states and union territories. GDS eligibility criteria
To apply for the GDS posts, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Age limit
You must be between 18 to 40 years of age as on June 11, 2023. However, there is age relaxation for the reserved categories as per the government norms. The details are given below:

Educational qualification
You must have passed Class 10th/ Matriculation/ SSC with English and Maths as compulsory or elective subjects from a recognized board of school education in India. You must also have studied the local language of the state or union territory where you are applying for at least up to Class 10th You must also have a basic computer knowledge and a certificate of at least 60 days duration from any computer training institute recognized by the central or state government. However, this condition is relaxed for candidates who have studied computer as a subject in Class 10th or higher.

GDS selection process
The selection of candidates for the GDS posts will be done on the basis of an automatic merit list generated by the online application system. There will be no written exam or interview for the GDS recruitment.
The merit list will be prepared according to the percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in Class 10th, subject to the following conditions:
The marks obtained in all subjects will be considered, not only in English and Maths.
The candidates must have passed in all subjects and not in grace marks.
In case of a tie, the order of merit will be determined by the date of birth, with older candidates given preference.
The candidates must have applied for only one post in one state or union territory.
The candidates must have submitted only one application with correct and complete information.
The merit list will be displayed on the official website of India Post and also communicated to the candidates through SMS and email. The candidates who are selected will have to undergo document verification and medical examination before joining.
GDS salary and benefits
The salary of the GDS posts varies according to the category and the work load. The minimum time related continuity allowance (TRCA) for 4 hours/level 1 and 5 hours/level 2 per day is as follows:

The GDS posts also come with various benefits such as annual increment, DA, gratuity, leave, medical care, social security, etc. The GDS posts are also eligible for promotion to higher posts such as Postal Assistant, Sorting Assistant, Postmaster, etc. after fulfilling certain criteria.
GDS recruitment process
To apply for the GDS posts, you need to follow these steps:
Step 1: Register online
You need to register online on the official website of India Post ( by providing your basic details such as name, date of birth, mobile number, email id, etc. You will receive a registration number and a fee payment number after successful registration.
Step 2: Pay application fee
You need to pay an application fee of Rs. 100 if you belong to UR/OBC/EWS male/trans-man category. There is no fee for female/trans-woman/SC/ST/PWD candidates. You can pay the fee online through debit card/credit card/net banking or offline through any post office branch.
Step 3: Apply online
You need to fill the online application form by logging in with your registration number and fee payment number.
